This sketch of the history of the First Congregational Church in Cromwell has been written for the services held in celebration of the church's 275th anniversary and is an updated version of a history of the church written for the 250th anniversary by the Reverend Edwin R. Carter and edited by Willis C. Warner and the Reverend H. Victor Allison. This summary of our church's growth is based on histories of the church written for past anniversaries and on contemporary documents in the church's collection.

Celebrating this milestone in our church's history gives us an opportunity to note that the church is the people and it is because of their loyalty and love, inspired by the Holy Spirit, that this church has prospered through the years.

The theme for our celebration is from Peter 1:24,25;

"For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the world of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached to you."

The Anniversary Theme is also a reminder that, as we stand on the threshold of a new decade and century, each of us has the opportunity to renew our faith and to promote the influence of our church in our community. The 275th Anniversary Committee members acknowledge the contributions of everyone who helped with this celebration and welcome our members and friends as we celebrate this joyous occasion.
